Right after having my very serious surgery performed, I was surrounded by dedicated health care assistants who helped with everything I needed. I was almost helpless at the beginning and fortunately, because of a friend's suggestion, my daughter had turned to Althea before the surgery began. I was also lucky to have day and night assistance. Very often the nurses at hospital or rehap facilities are overwhelmed and too busy to respond for quite a while. Having my own caregivers in attendance was a blessing. Especially the people who worked with me.I had an experience where my situation was dangerously threatened and both caretakers(Caroline and Phyllis) were alerting nurses in the vicinity and I was put into emergency quickly - and brought back to safety.They helped me eat, drink, take medicine and tests, and reminded me of what activities would have been dangerous for me to do at the time. After leaving the rehabs and heading home, Phyllis Brailford, agreed to work with me and help me adjust to becoming more independent. She assisted with Physical Therapy that was taught to me by professional Physical therapists. I know it's not easy but it did make the challenges more doable with constant encouragement and participation by watching my every move and helping to explain the correct positions. And having someone in my corner when my family had to be far away was something that I will always be grateful for. Phyllis helped in so many ways, I can't list them all. It's difficult having been such an independent person and then needing so much assistance but she never left me with lowered self esteem. She reminded me of who I am and who I can become. And we laughed a lot together. Laughter is the best medicine, after all. She also accompanied me to doctors, tests, and seemed to have endless energy. She kept my daughter informed of my progress all the time and conferenced her in while at we were doctor's offices.
Althea was so helpful to my daughter when trying to set up my assistants and hospital aftercare. She came to visit me after surgery and sent positive messages my way. I felt comfortable having her oversee the entire process. She is kind hearted and competent and people would be lucky to have her help with setting up care. When I was able, much later, to go to Costco for an eye exam, we bumped into Althea by coincidence and we were very happy to see her.
